Coloured Pencil Portraits

Coloured pencil drawings have become more popular option over the last couple of years. Coloured pencil lends itself perfectly to pet portraits and shows the unique colours of your pet. Pencils are particularly good at describing the shine of an animal’s coat and are semi-transparent which means they allow for layering to get a more realistic and 3D effect.

I’m interested in a pet portrait. What do I do?

Before I can start work on your pet portrait I need high a quality photograph to work from.

To make sure of good results it is important that I can work from clear images which show the unique details of your pet such as the fur, eyes, markings etc. Here are a few tips I hope you will find helpful:

Photographs taken outside without flash will result in better, accurate colours.
Try to avoid strong sunshine as the sun will cast dark shadows on your pet and the photograph won’t reflect their true coat colour.
Take your pets photograph at their level rather than looking down and make sure they are facing the camera if you want a head/head and shoulders pet portrait.
Try to get as close to your pet as possible whilst staying in focus as this will give the maximum amount of detail and make the portrait accurate.
They won’t sit still? It is a good idea to take a friend with you so they can tempt them with a treat or similar while you concentrate on taking the photo.
Please use the highest resolution settings you can.

Prices

Prices shown are for un-mounted portraits with no background detail. All prices are for a head and shoulders portrait. Additional animals or full body illustrations can be quoted for upon request. All portraits are created using high quality Fabriano, 100% cotton, 140lb paper and Caran D’Ache Aquarelle Prismalo pencils.

Before I can start work on your portrait I require a 50% non-refundable deposit. The balance of payment will be required upon completion, prior to dispatch. Bank/payment details will be sent to yourself.

Shipping

Shipping costs are included in the price of

your portrait. Your portrait will be rolled in

to a secure postal tube and shipped via

Royal Mail. All tubes are tracked and I will

send you the tracking number as soon as

it is on its way.
